The philosophy of First Presbyterian Church is that our Music Ministry provide ample opportunity for anyone who wishes to serve the Lord through the sharing of musical gifts and talents. No matter what age, there’s a choir for you here at First Presbyterian Church!

Director of Music, Hunt Cook, invites you to read the following brief overviews of our church’s music activities and find the right “fit” for you!  The act of giving time and musical talent is a wonderful way to meet new folks and participate in worship with the family of God. We hope you will come “test the waters” of our excellent choir programs.

Adult Choir (college age and above) are regular worship leaders for our Sunday morning 11:00 worship hour.  This group meets every Wednesday night 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Choir Room and at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning for rehearsals.  This choir sings a variety of musical styles ranging from Baroque and Classical pieces to contemporary works of well recognized present day church music composers.

Elementary Choir  (grades 1 – 5) meets every Wednesday 5:15 – 6:00 p.m. September – May.  Participation in this group includes a large percentage of our church’s elementary aged children who are enrolled in Sunday School. A variety of music activities keep this group busy including singing for worship and playing chimes and playing musical games.  Children are escorted to the Fellowship Hall to meet their families for supper and participate in Wednesday Night Live programming. Elementary Choir sings for worship 2 to 3 times a year and presents a musical at Christmas.

Youth Choir  (grades 6 – 12) meets every Sunday night 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.  September – April.  This group of youth sing a variety of choral works as well as enjoy more relaxed and contemporary fellowship songs and choruses.  These talented youth participate as worship leaders for the annual Youth Sunday.

Cherub Choir (preschool age) meets at 10:00 a.m.every Sunday morning during the Sunday school hour to sing curriculum based songs together.  This group sings for worship twice a year and enjoys making “joyful noises!”

Adult Handbell Choir meets every Wednesday 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.   September – April.  These ringers and their 5 octaves of bells make beautiful music for worship 3 or 4 times a year and participate in the annual Laurens County Handbell Festival every March. Although there are presently no openings, experienced substitutes are always needed and welcome!

Youth Handbell Choir  meets every Sunday afternoon 5:00 – 5:45 p.m. September – April.  This group enjoys ringing their 3 octave handbells for worship during Advent and for Youth Sunday every spring.  There are always openings for beginners in this group!
