Music Ministries

Adult Choir (college age and above) are regular worship leaders for our Sunday morning 10:30 a.m. worship hour. This group meets every Wednesday night 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Choir Room.  This choir sings a variety of musical styles ranging from Baroque and Classical pieces to contemporary works of well recognized present day church music composers.

Adult Handbell Choir meets every Wednesday 5:15 - 6:15 p.m.  September – April. These ringers and their 5 octaves of bells make beautiful music for worship 3 or 4 times a year and participate in the annual Laurens County Handbell Festival every March. Although there are presently no openings, experienced substitutes are always needed and welcome!

The Sanctuary Organ

Reuter Opus 1298

The organ of First Presbyterian Church was built, rebuilt and enhanced by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, Kansas. The company, founded in 1916, has had a long relationship with this church dating back to the installation of the original instrument in 1959. The enhancement and rebuilding of our fine organ was coordinated through the church’s Reuter representative, Mr. Donald E. Chance of Greensboro, Georgia, whose company also installed the organ.  The tonal finishing was completed on site by Mr. Joe Wiessinger, also of the Reuter Organ Company. The instrument has a three manual completely rebuilt console with an array of tonal resources. It has 35 ranks and 28 stops giving the organ the ultimate possibilities for supporting congregational singing as well as providing accompaniment for any size choral group or soloist.  The exposed pipes are part of the Great Organ while the Swell Organ and Choir Organ division pipes remain located in the organ chamber rooms directly behind the choir loft. Although many of the original pipes were retained, new pipes were added as part of the project and there are now almost 2000 pipes. On April 1, 2001, First Presbyterian Church proudly dedicated yet another element of beauty to the Glory of God.

The Bailey Carillon

The Bailey Memorial Bell Tower and Carillon was dedicated in November, 1973, in memory of the three daughters of Mercer Silas Bailey, an elder and church leader for many years. The Van Bergen Bell Foundry cast the 35 bells and installed a controller enabling the beautiful music of the bells to be heard throughout the surrounding community! A new computerized controller was installed in 1986. After a lightning strike in August 2003, the entire carillon system underwent a major renovation and was joyfully rededicated to the Glory of God on May 8, 2005.
